Title: Charles Philip Yorke, Fouth Earl of Hardwicke, Vice-Admiral R.N. A Memoir

Written By: Lady Biddulph of Ledbury (his daughter)

"This biography of a nineteenth century aristocrat who rose from Midshipman to Vice Admiral in the Royal Navy.  His story is told through his letters home to his family and ranges from his early years in Halifax Nova Scotia to meeting John Paul Jones, assisting Byron in the Greek war of independence and “persuading” the Bey of Algiers to release his Christian slaves by the judicious use of gunboat diplomacy.  Amongst other things he was instrumental in preventing the sack of Genoa. This story could have been the model for Hornblower or Ramage, a fascinating read." To Preview this book click here
