Helping The Library of Lost Books Grow

Book Scanning

Do you have out-of-copyright books at home that you think other people would enjoy reading? Do you have books at home that have been passed down through your family or that you picked up at a boot fair that are not in our collection? Newsstand wants to make sure these books are not lost forever and would like to ask you to add your books to our library. We will even pay you for your help!

All we need is a digital pdf copy of the book (and cover if possible) *. If you can scan the book yourself, please ensure the quality is set at least 300dpi. If you cannot scan the book, send us the following information through our Contact Us form and we will send you a quote for scanning it for you:

• Book Title & Author (just to ensure we do not already have it)
• Number of Pages and final book dimensions
• Clarify whether the book can be dismantled or needs to stay intact (effects the scanning rates, but we can deal with both)
• Once the out-of-copyright book is added to our library of lost books, we will pay you a fee each time a copy is sold. You determine how much you would like to receive and we will include that in the final selling price. **

* Newsstand can print full colour book covers but we can only print black and white internal pages.

** If you set the fee too high, you may not sell any books. We can update the fee amount at any time if you change your mind.

Additional Services For Authors

Copy Editing

If you would like us to check over your manuscript for spelling and grammar mistakes, incorrect caption, punctuation, etc we do offer copy-editing services upon request. Having someone else look over your work with a set of fresh eyes can make all the difference to the end quality of your book. Any changes suggested will be highlighted for your approval before your book is published.

Typesetting

We can help you design the layout of you book both inside and out. All the different elements of typesetting can be done in-house at Newsstand including page layout, page sizes and quality, changing font type and size, inserting black and white illustrations, and designing coloured book covers. Once the typesetting is complete, proofs will be sent to you for approval. Quotes are available upon request.

File Merging

If your book is made up of one than one file, Newsstand is able to merge the necessary files together in order to generate one printable file.

Format Conversion

Digital PDF files are required for printing. We accept other digital and non-digital formats that we will convert on your behalf:

• Digital format: Files created in Windows Word (or MAC equivalent) or Adobe InDesign.
• Previously printed book: We will dismantle a copy of your book in order to scan each page and generate a digital copy of your book.
• Hand-written and Typed manuscripts: We do offer conversion services for both hand-written and typed material, turning your book into a printable file.

ISBN Registration and Barcode Generation

If you wish to have an ISBN allocated to your book, Newsstand can do this for you. We can generate a barcode that can be incorporated into your book cover artwork as well.

There is no legal requirement for your book to have an ISBN and you do not have to have an ISBN to sell your book through Newsstand's website.

ISBNs are essential if you want to expand your distribution options to include online book companies, bookshops and any other retail outlets. They are unique references to your book and contain information about the publisher, which makes ordering a copy of your book easier. Without an ISBN, you are in effect limiting your book's exposure to private sales.
